CD-R problem

After some conversions my video files have come out at over 700MB making them too large to back up on a CD-R without using WinZip or winrar and splitting the file. I have purchased some larger disks (90 min/800MB) and under Nero and the win XP CD burning software still tells me these new disks are only 700MB.

I have updated my firmware and the drive manufacturer www.liteonit.com have said that windows contains all the appropriate drivers and their for don't provide their own on the site.

Does anyone know if I can find a solution to this problem or if I am stuck with files I can't burn to a single disk without getting a new CD burner?

Firstly how large are the files ie are they like 702 mb or 720 mb etc

Secondly If you are using nero use the overburning feature most cd-r can support upto 710 mb some upto 730 mb (even tho they say only 700 mb)

Secondly Update your version of nero the older ones dont support 90 min discs

the files i use vary in size some are just over 700 (like you say 702) and they fit on the 80 min disks. the others vary in size from arround 710 to arround 780.

i updated nero a little while ago (1 or 2 months maby more) but i will try the update and overburning.

With 780 mb ones the only way is to burn to 90 min discs but even then often a lot of CD writers dont support 90 mins discs

Use CD speed or drive speed not sure which one its a tool that comes with nero and do the overburning test itll tell u the max capacity that the 80 min cds u got support with overburning with mine its 737mb so

This does not seem to have solved the problem as Nero still rejects the disks saying they are still only 703MB

On the over burn using the 90 min CD's Nero told me that I was only able to over burn to 718 safely and error free. The file is larger than that and the disk able to store more information so I told Nero to continue anyway. The file burnt to CD and the film plays to the end ok (I haven't played it all the way through for a full test) but skipping through the film seems to work fine and the end credits etc. go right to the end of the disk. And looking at the disk surface there appears to be more space on the disk. (The file was only 730MB) thanks for your help. This seems to work. Its just a little unnerving keep saying yes when it says "are you sure you want to do this it may fuck up your drive" lol.

I used the CDSpeed.exe application (in the ahead\Nero Toolkit directory) to investigate my disks results below (if anyone is interested on what I use/recommend).

The CD speed program also registers the 90 min disks as being able to hold only 703MB data but 803MB audio. having said that Nero seems to burn them ok.

It is just not possible to have a CD-R declare more than 700 megs in its ATIP, that's why you get these messages.
Some 90 min discs even have an ATIP of only 16 mins which causes some writers to reject them for overburning to 90 mins.

chears smiller667 thats cleard that one up. i am doing everything correctly then. as i said i thought it was all working ok. if that is the case then everything is going correctly. thanx for reassuring me.
