the case of the missing mousepad

3 years ago i bought my 2nd computer (e-machine 500mhz) which i'm still currently using, when i'd first opened it, i found out the mousepad was missing (too far to go back and complain)

2 month ago, my friend's cousin bought a computer (e-machine amd athlon xp 2000+) and his mousepad was also missing, but they had a spare.

i think this should be a poll.

Not really a major concearn for me. Get a optical mouse and your laughin'. This was actully a common problem when I used to work for Gateway but no one really complained, so it must be you:p

I got mousepads coming out of my ears, everybody used to give you those for free ... so why go for another one?
And mousepads suck 95% of the time anyway, unless they are really expensive ... so yes, go with an optical and you won't regret it.

hey i like the ball utilizing mouse. it gets pretty accurate till after a while, then when it get less accurate, and i have to move it over a couple of times to get the cursor moving, i like to clean it out and remove all the lint off of the axis wheels. why opt for an optical mouse? what a waste of optics.

optical mouses can be a blessing or a curse, depending mostly on the surface. What's definitely nice is that you don't have to clean them every few months. On the other hand, I have a dual senser Mouseman and either my mousepad is not suited for that mouse, or the dual sensors actually screw things up.. sometimes the mouse pointer just flies off to a corner while I'm not even moving the mouse.. that's highly annoying if you are just about to send a huge army into battle in C&C.

I'm using the logitech MX700 wireless optical mouse and I love it. A few days ago I noticed that every so often the movement would become erratic, and clicks would sometimes not register. It was sporadic and I couldn't nail down what the problem was because it would only last a few seconds. I thought it might have been my mouse surface or perhaps the new sound drivers I had installed or some other software problem, but I couldn't figure it out.

It turns out the recharge base/receiver had been moved too close to my monitor. It's usually 4-5 inches away but I had moved stuff around and it was right next to it. I moved it a couple of inches away and everything was fine.

Mousepads (of which I have plenty with logos of companies that went belly-up) should go the way of the floppy. 2 mice here (because the crappy Belkin KVM won't daisy chain properly) one optical, the other is a marble.

"Optical" mice have been around for quite some time - anybody remember the SGI designs which required a special patterned reflective mousepad? I believe you could get them for your Suns as well ...

I just got a new computer and there was a mousepad with it. But I have to admit that there wasn't one in the box of my first computer I bought it 2 years ago.

The thing I usually get with the computer (well, only two :D ) is the mouse and the key-board.

Personally I think even if you have an optical mouse a good quality mousepad is a must. Quality ones often have surfaces designed for better reflection of the laser and smoother movement of the mouse.

i went to Fry's to buy an optical mouse just this week, cause the 2nd axis of my mouse broke, but a regular mouse was on sale, went for that, i mean you can beat $3, also got a new mousepad; no point of getting a new mouse without a new pad

My System came with a crappy 10$ mice & an good looking "but also crappy" mousepad...
So I throw the pad away and used a simple 15x20cm glass-plate from my moms kitchen... (Those ones where you cut vegetable things on...) :D
Was really nice to use (fast n' smooth), but then I buy'd a Logitech-MX500 and this mouse wont work on this glass-plate... :(
So I buy'd a RatpadzGS-Mousepad... Now I'm happyer than ever ! :D :D :D

I hate using mouses and touchpads...
I use a Trackball on my PC and a Trackpoint (yes this small jostick, embedded in a Notebooks Keyboard)

So there is no need for a Mousepad...

my systems come with a manual with instructions to where the screws go and with tons of device boxes with manuals and drivers discs. sometimes the devices comes bagged in only little baggies and maybe with manuals or driver discs. you diy bmosers know what i'm talking about.

when i read poll i thought "oh cool", but this soon changed to "what the X is a mousepad ???" ..well when i read the edges post i started to understand it refers to those ugly things some ppl put their mouse on and pay tons of money for it having a cool logo :)

i never had a "mousepad" even before the days of optical mice and yes, optical is my way. if someone had donated me one of these things i'd probably stuffed it into his mouth or something, in school where they had them i could always make the excuse "im lefthanded and only taking the mouse to the other side, kindly diregarding the presence of the mat. So my reaction is: "be glad they forgot to include them"

if i had an optical mouse, i would still uses an mousepad, cause the noise of the mouse rubbing againt the desk is enough to bother me

besides, even if the mousepad is to become obsolete, they should sill include them; they can be uses as a coaster for your drinks, or a coaster for you ass/asses (your choice)

a friend of mine got a new optical mouse and soon complained that the mouse was working so bad.

I took a look and saw she was using

... a tidy, very well cleaned, BLACK mousepad

OH HOW I KNOW THIS! We have an optical Logitech mouse here at work and I can't count the times I was just short of throwing the damn crap out of the window.

At home I have a MS wireless optical mouse which works ok, only my rechargeables seem to die since they empty almost faster than I can reload them (and it's quite annoying to have to replace them about every day).

Concerning mouse pads I just won one and its actually the first one that really works with the MS mouse at home. Before I had to use sheets of paper b/c my desk has a glass surface on which it doesnt work at all.

honestly, I got about 20 of these things at home and haven't paid for one of them? why? well there's tons of companies that are throwing those at you and about 2 or 3 of them are even not so bad to look at. (not that i do as normally when sitting infront of the computer i look at the screen ;))

anyway, i had one included with my computer that carried the logo of the company where i bought the computer, but that one was really crappy anyway. afgter playing two hours of CS it just folded itself up :)

anyway, I got an optical mouse anyway, but still use a mousepad as a 'spacer' on my desk. when there's a thousand things on there it's sometimes hard to find enough space to navigate with your mouse :)

trackballs: I got to use one of these at work atm because my normal optical mouse crapped out on me and i can tell you it is a pain in the rear end. Sometimes i think i'm gonna break a finger when working with it :)
