First, i use a canopus ADVC-50 and WinDV 1.2.3.

I had never a problem..till the power outage during the last record, and now i've a file i cannot read - gspot just tells its not a valid AVI-file.

I don't know when WinDV writes the header of the file, but i suppose only at the end of the recording.

Any change that i can add an own header or tell any program what kind of codec to use, or just the way into the bin ?

Thanks for any help.

What happens if you open it in VirtualDub with "Pop up extended open options"-option checked? Can you rederive the avi then?

"Cannot determine file type"
Well, i think without any header VirtualDub cannot know for what kind of frames it should search for ?

I'm currently trying a tip i found in the google groups.

Cutting out the middle of the file, adding beginning and end of a working file and the rekeying...will need some time now *hopes*

So, the tip did not work, the frames stop at the cut of the first DV-file, the others frames of the damaged file are ignored are ignored :(

Welll, i don't know any further :scared:

Any ideas ???

*sigh* well looks like the file goes into the bin. :(

I just see no change to repair it, nor did i find a hex-editor who is capable to edit a 8gig big file (ultraedit cuts off at 4gig without big use of systemcache and ram, so its not my system here)
