View Full Version : Can I add a "little Sharpen" filter during Gknot ??

Hello, people.

Everybody here knows that Gknot uses VirtualDub for the jobs. Well, VirtualDubs has tons of filters, including that one "SHARPEN". I'd like to know how I can add a little bit of SHARPEN to my movies, how can access those VirtualDub filters, since GordianKnot is automatic, no chance to change the VirtualDub configs, or does it has??

I appreciate your answers.

Thanks a lot.

hi,
well you definitely could use this sharpen filter from virtualdub by manually editing your avisynth script before (!!) encoding.

anyway, this is not recommended, as you will loose a lot of speed and quality advantage you gain by using gknot/avisynth2.5/vdubmod. This is because vdub filters only work in RGB (iirc - or maybe YUV2, but not YV12) and therefor this filter would require you to convert your colorspace several times! therefore you loose encoding speed (takes processing power) and also quality.

Anyway, if you want to sharpen your picture with an equal filter, take a look at www.avisynth.org and look at the avisynth filters there. I'm sure you'll find a filter that is equal or better than the vdub one.

Be carefull with sharpening the picture though as it can seriously degrade compressability!

of course you can add a sharpening filter in gknot by editing the .avs script (no need to use any internal virtualdub filter)

choose everything you want as always in gknot but before encoding press
edit -> now you can change the .avs script -> add a sharpening filter (you have to define also the path of the filter (loadplugin) of course) -> save & encode -< continue as always

a nice sharpening filter is unfilter for example (pretty fast)

why not use a sharper resize method like Lanczos or even Mfs sharpresize.
