PAL DVD to NTSC SVCD - how?

Ok, got a PAL DVD, trying to make an NTSC SVCD. I've gotten it pretty close (everything down to looking almost ok, but cropping the sides, doh!) but I just can't get it quite right with either CCE/D2S, or TMPGenc. I'm open to suggestions on how to do this and do this right. Thanks :)

I assume you have read Q67 in the Q+A sticky...

Never had the need to do PAL2NTSC so I'm no expert but there's some tips there.
