I have read somewhere about some graphic (or similar) cards that could help the encode speed in movie author programs (premiere etc.) I wonder if there is similar cards for encoding with CCE? Where can you find them?

CCE is advertised and promoted as a software-only encoder. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge even if you had a hardware mpeg encoder, CCE wouldn't be able to utilize it.

AFAIK there are hardware accelerated MPEG2 capture cards.
Just do a google-search ;)

Vidac (http://www.vidac.de/) offers such cards, some of them including a tv tuner. What's interesting about these is that their hw accel. can be used for transcoding purposes as well :).
Sadly, their English site is rather incomplete. No idea if they sell internationally.

Are there MPEG-2 encoding hardware based PC cards that encode and output better video than CCE? If so are they reasonably priced?

I read somewhere many moons ago that the ones that the studios use are way better. Just wondering if software encoding technology has gotten better than the hardware now.

well if you read closely, CCE-PRO is a software hardware combo ! might put you back some grand though...

Edit: also FYI, you can put algorithm on the hardware side or on the software.....the people who make software tend not to have the knowhow to make silicon out of their algorithm...

they are just two sides of the same coin

You may want to look into Hauppage's DVR-250. It's had rave reviews.

I didn't see CCE-Pro since I only knew about the basic and SP version of software based CCE versions. I'll check the Pro version out.
