Hi all,

Is there an easy way to convert a Full Screen (4:3) dvd to Wide Screen (16:9) without messing up the aspect ratio or the image?

I don't really care if i loose any image info from up & down, i just don't want to mess up the picture.

Thanks in advance and please excuse my poor english.

Canopus Procoder is a very easy way doing this...
There's few settings you have to experiment( i don't remember them know, we use it at work).
Also, you can do easily the opposite...
You have to try it, yet it very expensive (at least for me, who have in a way paid it(convinced my boss!))

I tried using this tool (Canopus Procoder). I was trying to make a NTSC DVD, but I get a lot of pausing (skip) on my encoded m2v file (my imput file is also an m2v). I haven't encoded the entire film (there is no point if there is a lot of pausing), I just encode for like five minutes then I stop encoding and check the ouput file and that's when I see all the pausing. Have you ever had this problem? If so how can you fix it?

Sometimes Windows Media Player (or other players) seem to have problems with MPEG-2 videos, especially in high bitrates...
In other words, your file might be OK, but the players can't handle it...
By experience, if it plays in Maestro (simulation), the mpeg is ok...
You could try also to make a test DVD (just compile that small segment you encoded) and play it with PowerDVD or WinDVD.

I hope you didn't refer to transcoding from PAL to NTSC, where stuttering may occur and other methods are needed

I had the same skipping using procoder when going from mpeg 2 NTSC to mpeg 1 PAL. Main Concept encoder does the same thing unless you use an intermediate step i.e in my case NTSC mpeg 2 to PAL mpeg 2 then down to mpeg 1. Too much for it to transcode and resize me thinks.

Why do you want to do this?

If you set up your standalone DVD player to 16:9 TV output it will adjust the picture itself.

But if you still want to do it then I recommend using FitCD or Fit2Disc to create an avisynth script with proper rezising.
You can find FitCD and Fit2Disc here: http://shh.dvdboard.de
