Frames repeating

I am having a very wierd problem, that i have only seen in other places because of a de-coding messup. What it is is sort of hard to explain, but i'm sure its prolly something simple that i've (sadly) never heard of before ^_^;; First off, i am encoding Read or Die (anime) and its 3 episodes. The first 2 were fine, no probs at all. And the last one was fine....untill about 5 mins from the end it started to do this wierd jittery thing with repeating frames. The best way to show it (since i dont feel like upping a sample) would be this:

(each number is a new frame)

1 2 3 4 _3_ 5 6 7 8 _7_ 9...and so on.

I dont know where these extra frames (3 and 7, here) are coming from but it is not because i ripped the vobs wrong, cause i have tried it a few times, and the same thing happens. Here is the IVTC part of my avs (pretty simple)

Decimate(cycle=5)

, because that is the only thing i can think of that would give it a problem.. but i dont understand why it only happens at the end of the video. And its not like its the DVD its fine when i play it right off of it. Any help is great! Thankyou ^_^

This is more of a thing for the AviSynth forum, also try to find some threads about decomb. Iirc there should be plety of stuff you can try to correct your problem.

It sounds like the episode might have changed field order mid-way (Blue Sub #6 DVDs do that too, for anyone who has them). I have the ROD dvd, but I haven't played around with it yet myself. You might wanna use trim() in avisynth to separate the 2 parts of ep3 and at the start of the second part use swapfields(). If it is in fact a field order change mid-ep, that should solve your problem. If not, I'll be forced to think of something else.

well... the only things i can think of is:

a) something has attempted random access (maybe you scrubbed the timeline in virtualdub or whatever) and the MPEG decoder has caught it wrong (that happens... even navigating with the arrows in VD can cause the decoder to go in the wrong direction). in this case, simply re-load the avs, don't touch it, and do it again.

b) you've got a PAL DVD and decimate is set wrong.

i can't really think of anything else here. unless the DVD stream has RFF flags in it, which screw up the field order. (RFF for Repeat First Field). these could be used incorrectly and screw things up, but it's a long shot.

manono is right about it not being hybrid. But I disagree with him about enabling pattern guidance. There just isn't enough 0123 action in the D2V.

You can do this the simple way by using FORCE FILM and following it with:

fielddeinterlace(full=false,threshold=30)

As you can see flags aren't changed so I don't really know how it works. But it does look good on this clip.

I also couldn't understand why neuron2 said "There just isn't enough 0123 action in the D2V." and then used Force Film... :confused:

EDIT: Chances are that neuron2

1) Guessed well, or trial-and-error;
2) Knows something about how Force Film works that we (or at least I :) ) don't know.

After knowing that framerate will be forced to 23.976 fps (at least this was my interpretation of Don's answer) it seems to me that some parts will be accelerated. Maybe he didn't tried to check synch with audio, I asked him that now.
