OK ive have read about but i would like to know is deiterlacing really needed or important.As i do pal movies, now if bitrate viewer tells me its interlaced i leave progressive unticked in cce, if its progressive i tick progressive.I've never had problems when encodeing with cce.

I do have a couple of R1 movies, now if i decide to back these up will i need to do anything special with them, as i keep reading about IVTC, forcefilm etc ....

When encodeing with CCE this is what my .avs script has in.....

mpeg2source("g:\where ever the d2v file is")
resampleaudio(44100)

Also whats the Decomb.dll all about.

I mean why do all this deinterlaceing on interlaced movie etc.... when if i encode the movie with the same settings bitrate veiwer gives me the movie plays fine.

Since you're in PAL land, you should almost ALMOST check PROGRESSIVE.

IVTCing always depends on your source. For DVDs you can usually just use the FORCE FILM option in DVD2AVI. If your source is a NTSC video tape, or a Laserdisk, then you can use DECOMB.DLL to IVTC and remove the duplicate frames.

and the only way to work out whether to tick or untick progressive is to physically look at the footage for interlacing.
