I was just wondering if there is any known way to get rid of not beign able to record any Macrovision VHS tapes from my VCR while using WinDVR 3?

The only way I have found around it is to use Virtualdub to capture insted of WinDVR but I am using the MSI@nywhere Capture / TV Card so it will not let me capture at anything higher then 320x240.

Are there any other way around the Macrovision using software that would work correctly with my capturing card?

Is that MSI card with BT 8x8 chip?
If yes, you could try with some tweaked capture drivers, which allow full res. capturing.

Ummm I belive so, is there any way to make sure it is that chipset?

You can examine card (must remove from PC) - chip is square form, look what prints on it.
Or search on the WEB - some test of card. Or see on manufacturer's site specifications.

According to the MSI website, the chipset for my MSI TV@nywhere card is the Conexant CX23881 chipset.

From the sales datasheet:

"To this end, the CX23880/CX23881 fully implements Macrovision 7.01 detection. When an enduser attempts to connect a digital video disk (DVD) player, a digital satellite/cable decoder’s composite, or s-video outputs to the input of a CX23880/ CX23881-based PCI card, Macrovision pulses and signals are detected, and appropriate flag bits are set. It is up to the board vendor to read the flag bits and determine what action will be taken."

So, it's a driver issue. The chip detects macrovision, it is up to the driver and / or the application to act upon it.

Ok, looks like I will just have to either live with using Virtualdub or explore some more software packages.

you can use a sima copy master they go for $50.00 dollars at best buy but i think they do not sell them "Sima SED-CM Copymaster"

Also this will only work for VHS to VHS and DVD to PC capture card and VHS to PC capture card. It will not work for DVD to VHS
