pc freezes u7p during converting?

does anyone else have this problem a few minutes into converting my avi file my pc freezes i can't get to encode a full movie

yeah i can't even encode on my machine bcos my tmpgenc or procoder software freezes my whole machine i then need to reboot which cuts off the encoding everytime lately this is happening without fail i even bought more memory to see if that would help but no
i now use my brothers pc to encode his is less powerful and takes longer but is guaranteed to do the job done searches on it and 1 solution was if you are using a chipset driver 4 in 1 to update the driver for it done this also and still the same freezes

i have tryed doing some encoding on another computer (slower than my main computer) and i wonder if the problem could be due to the differances betwean an AMD machine and an Intel machine. what does every one else use? i use an AMD which errors and the other is an intel and that seems to work ok but much much slower as it is an older processor.

both my machines are AMD mine is 2000+ athlon the other 1500+ duron the slower one encodes fine but takes about 3 hours longer lol
this is just a recent peoblem with mine used to encode all the time fine
the thing is you could spend all day trying to find out the problem which will prodbally turn out to be a simple driver problem(I HOPE)

Guys, this may sound stupid since you might already read it somewhere, but just in case: if you are overlocking or by other means unstabilizing your system, long jobs which stress components (like encodes) may fail for no apparent reason.

i do not overclock as i am happy with my system performance. i have tryed turning off all other processes and mixing and maching processes.
the only thing that gives me more stability in encoding supprisingly is running some software such as CD burning and the game GTA Vice City for some reason seems to prevent crashes and allows me to do a large bach list. this does still crash on occasion though.
i also do a variaty of other convertion processes and only the mpeg1 encoding seems to cause problems.

is there a way of getting an updated or differant mpeg1 encoding codec (i'm not sure if it is actualy a codec or not but am unaware of the proper term) that i can try? as the problem is common amung several programs doing similar tasks i think the problem may be from some shaired code which microsoft haven't done a good job of

iv never over clocked either i started using pro-coder to see if it was just tmpgenc but that freezes up my machine also can't think of anything else to troubleshoot

i have found that iff someone accesses files over my home network that it can encourage my computer to crash evan when using my workarround of running GTA vice city. i am using some of the advanced fetures of the home networking which i am unsure as to weather they cause maore bugs is anyone else using the advanced networkingoptions or any networking options?

has anyone found anyother programs that work well as a workaround?

this unexplainable/uncontroleable crashing is pissing me off.

some good links mate thanks i am totally lost with this by now used to encode quite a lot with tmpgenc but now it freezes literally every time i got so peed off with it i did a total install to see if that would fix any problems underlying but it still freezes up i am gonna look into encoding with cce but i can't get a handle with this frameserving as yet have you had any more luck amon

Not very helpful, but you can try to run the torture test of Prime95 http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm on your PCs and look if it runs stable.
So you can at least say that your PC should be able to do a long encoding job, and its more likely that it is the encoder or a software fault.
If it even crash at this test, there must be something wrong with your system. (overheating,to aggresive ram parameters)

it only crashes during mpg 1 encoding though. i dont think it is a system fault as everything else seems ok.

i tryed adding some direct show filters but it didn't work maby i added the wrong ones.

amon i am running media player 8 i managed to fix what was causing my problem my cpu tempreture when encodeing was going upto 84c which was causing my pc to crash and freeze up so i got a new fan and all is going good so far what is your temp at?

i am using software that came with my motherboard ABIT KX7-333R and it tells me my CPU temperature is 63 which is well within operational allowances for the AMD chip. also i don't have any problems with other video convertions using VirtualDub flaskmpeg etc...
however the problems have been much worse lately with the heatwave we have been having in the UK. one thig i am going to do is get hold of some coolant spray that is used in electronics to try and give the CPU a cooling test to see if that makes the differance. if it does i'll upgrade my hardware.
could it possibly be RAM or something else overheating and causing this problem?

i am hoping to get some cooling spray which comes in a small can from radioshack / maplin. if anyone else can give this a try and send back the results i'll put mine up as soon as i can do some testing.

yeah i am from scotland and the heat wave has taklen it's toll on my pc aswell after i upgraded my fan everything was encoding fine no freezing at all how much ram do you have amon as my last pc kept doing the same it was due to the fact i didn't have enough ram only 256 was installed after i put another 256 in it was ok
i will try and get a hold of this spray as it sounds like a good idea especially in this weather which is bad for the machines
