freeze frame with ATI AIW 8500 DV & virtualdub

When capturing SVHS tapes for back up to DVD using either my ATI AIW capture software or virtualdub version 1.4.9.2 the file freezes on playback & will start and stop a couple of times and then stop altogether. I have an athalon 1.1 gig, 768Meg ram, Seagate 120 gig 7200 rpm hd, and Creative Audigy Sound Blaster sound card. From my research it appears that my tapes have some type of copy protection. My old multi media console software that came with the capture card was version 7.6, I now have version 8.5, neither version will copy the tapes in question. The nice thing about the 8.5 version is as soon as I load the tape in the vcr & play begins the console will indicate if the tape cannot be recorded, by graying out the record function button. Is there software to overcome the copy protection? I have looked quite a lot, but have not been able to discover any. Also after the first attempt at using virtualdub my t.v. tuner no longer outputs sound even after uninstall of 7.6 and install of 8.5, Thanks for the help.:confused:

Tape has probably Macrovosion protection. It works by inserting oscillations into sync. pulses to confuse video recorders when try to copy. I don't know about that it can be captured well with usual cards - I have one such tape, and lot of dropped frames...

Hardware macrovision killer will restore normal sync pulses - if you can find such thing...

I was able to find a patch for the ATI MVD Driver which is used by the card to capture video, but it also detects the macrovision on the tapes and prevents copy on the digital VCR or use ov T.V. OnDemand if the program is macrovision protected. The patch has fixed the video copy problem, but I still have no sound in play or record when in T.V. mode. I can play a DVD or old file recorded before I used virtualdub to try and capture the VHS tapes with macrovision on them. I believe it has to do with the capture driver but uninstalling and reinstalling has had no effect.
