View Full Version : problem making VCD with .AVI....

I downloaded a file that was supposedly an .avi file but when I used an encoder to make it into an mpeg, the file either won't work with a burning program to make a VCD (even though it recognizes it as being an mpeg), or by using a program like VCDeasy to make it into a bin/cue file, it won't be playable by the DVD player when the process of making the VCD is finished.
Does anyone know what the problem is, and if so, what I can do to fix it so I can play this ".avi" file in my DVD??

I tried WinMPG Video Converter and Aare AVI to VCD converter, both yielded the same results. Have been trying to find a solution now with FlaskMPEG and then VCDEasy....still nothing.
With WinMPEG, they have all --> avi and avi --> VCD settings. When I tried the avi to VCD setting first, it said that it wasn't actually an avi. So I used the all to avi and then that setting but it didn't make anything that the burner could use.
With Aare I tried just their basic VCD setting (which I believe pick the output for you so it is VCD compatible), and although it gave me an mpeg, it didn't work with the DVD player when burned.
VCDEasy was much the same with its 'VCD' setting, and although the burner didn't have a problem with the bin/cue file and it burned properly, it wouldn't work with the DVD player again.
FlaskMPEG seemed to have a problem with the original file again, much like the WinMPG saying that it wasn't actually an avi file.
I have cut and pasted the file info below:

The DVD player I was talking about was a regular Tv DVD player, not a computer one. I've always had better luck with the computer ones but the tv ones always seemed more picky, etc.
Anyway, I did get one trial to work. When I made the Bin/Cue files with VCDEasy, I tried burning them with a different version of CDRwin. The older version did get the DVD to work. However, it did not react like a regular VCD. I got a code that came up, (PBC I think) and then after a while it began playing. I suppose it doesn't really matter because it DID play and the quality was good, but I would like to find out what the problem was and why I had to go through multiple programs to get a combination that would produce a VCD that would work....
Thanks for the tips as well.
