I installed Divx 5.02 because it seemed to enocode the whole movie whereas anything later would always freeze on certain frames. Now when I try to encode it says it cant find the log file. I followed the FAQ about the log files and it seems to be a problem with either the .avs script or avisynth itself. When i try to open the .avs in VDubMod with "open video file via avisynth", it says "failed to create script."
Byt I can open it with the open video file option in the file menu. So how can I make this go away?

Hi-
If you can open the .avs in VDubMod and can scroll around, then both the .avs script and AviSynth are OK.
When i try to open the .avs in VDubMod with "open video file via avisynth", it says "failed to create script."
Ignore that. It means nothing. If you've confirmed that DivX 5.02 is actually still installed (Open VDubMod and then go Video-Compression and confirm it's in there), then I would suggest that you first reinstall it, as something does seem to be screwed up. And if that doesn't work, I'd suggest reinstalling GKnot. But jggimi may have a better suggestion.

Does the .log file actually exist? If not, then the first pass is not producing a log file for some reason.
One guess is that if the codec is installed, then the DivX option defaults may not be set properly. For example, if the codec is set up to do a single pass encode, then there won't be a .log file produced.
If I recall correctly, the API command structure altered between 5.02 and 5.03 to support the then-new N-pass encoding commands. If that's right, then DivX 5.02 may not be usable with current Gknot releases.

I think that divX 5.02 can't be used with the current release because im pretty sure that the log files do exist. I'll try to download an older version of Gknot and then see if it'll work.
