Dolby Surround Pro Logic Software Decoder!

I am aware of the various software DVD Players there are out there, PowerDVD, WinDVD etc that have a Dolby Surround Pro Logic Decoder.

I have come to notice that after capturing many things off TV - TV series, Music Videos and Movies that the Stereo signal from TV is actually Dolby Surround encoded audio.

Duh! You Say.

Well heres my question:

Is there a Dolby Pro Logic software decoder out there that can take the audio input from your Sound Card (Line-in, AUX etc) and decode the Dolby Surround audio and send it to all your Speakers (5.1) while you are watching TV?

If there is one could someone tell me what the program is called?

I don't think you'd be gaining much by doing this, seeing as almost all stereo receivers today have DPL decoding capability. You'll just be using up more space to transfer the same audio. I'd say leave it in 2ch DS format and let the receiver do the work.

If your receiver doesn't have DPL for some reason, try this in the audio forum. Or you could probably search and find the answer without asking.

I think he wants this so he can get DPL while watching his TV tuner live.

I use to be able to get DPL from my Sound Blaster Live! while watching TV (using the SB's line in for sound) under win98 by setting it to movie mode (under the SB mixer I believe). Unfortunately, I don't know how (or if you can) do it under Win2k/Xp.

I know this isn't software, but SB Live! is pretty common, or perhaps your card has a similar feature.

wmansir is correct, I use Dscaler to watch analog TV via Cable. My cable box only outputs to Stereo via your standard A/V output.

I plug the audio out from the cable box into my Line-In on my Sound Card.

The audio is NICAM Stereo, and most of the TV programs are in Dolby Surround.

PowerDVD has a Software Dolby Pro Logic Decoder that uses the Stereo signal and extracts all 6 channels and outputs it to the sound cards outputs.

I was just wondering if someone knows of a program that does the samething PowerDVD does, but uses the Stereo signal from the sound cards inputs, Line-In, AUX etc.

I am aware of the Sound Blaster LIVE software. I used to have one.
The software dosn't actually use a Dolby Pro Logic decoder like PowerDVD does, so the sound isn't properly decoded. All it does is add reverb and other tweaks.

Dolby Prologic II performs an imitation of Dolby surround effect out of a stereo source.Isn't that good enough ?

Its not a question about 'Sounding Good Enough'.

I have ripped many TV Series and Television programs. Playing them back using PowerDVD with a 5.1 Sound Card connected to LogiTech 5.1 Speakers sounds so much better then plain STEREO.

Note: I dont have a separate Pro Logic Receiver to use, thats why I need a software one.

No, old threads just lose their relevance after a while and new ones take their place. There's probably something newer than this dead thread by now. Let's see, ffdshow, media player classic, ac3filter, I think mplayer?, and other open-source software can do this. All I use for dvds is ffdshow & mpc and it plays 5.1 just fine; unless there's encryption involved I can't imagine why it wouldn't for DTV shows.

Software umixing in realtime (or near realtime).. not that I know of :(

Best I've achieved is around 70ms delay. Which is noticable when playing a video game.
