It's a series DVD - IE, 5 episodes. There are many, many VTS IFOs. Is there any way for me to split up the DVD into one disc containing 3 eps, one containing the next 2, and both having the menu items and extras? All this info about CCE, re-encoding, PGCs, etc, is very confusing.

I don't want to be rude or anything, but have you considered searching the forum? Or maybe took a look at the www.doom9.org site in the section guides and with some work found this:

That would be all well and good, as I've used that guide in the past to split DVDs. However, that guy makes use of DVDs that have ONE main movie VTS set. The DVD I'm working with doesn't have a main movie VTS set, it has 5!
Have you tried DVDshrink in re-author mode ? It links up seperate VTS without a hitch and you don't need to compress if you don't want to.
That would only be part of the story - if you want the original menues too you need some experience with ifoedit.

interesting. tell me more about this joining of VTS files, and the re-working of the menu. I'm all ears :)
Ok, reading the DVDShrink help files. Apparently re-authoring is dead easy, but you create a "flat" DVD that doesn't have a menu. How on earth would I fix that?
You can look at ths thread "A Simple Menue - easy" in DVD Authoring,
although you might not have MyDVD the IFO procedures are usefull.
Also look for guides on putting menus back after authoring, there is
a lot of info about this. You need to decide if you want the original menu or if a homemade one would be more suitable. That depends on how much of the original structure you keep and how big the menu vobs (all 0.vobs and video_ts.vob)are.
