I've been doing movie only backups as i after quality not quantity. Some movies are will do a full back up of(using CCE) if the disc is only about 5.30gb or less aslong as i can keep a good bitrate.
Now i was looking trough here i was think on giving the big 3 a go.

But how good is the quality ,really ??

I know cce's quality is great. But on certain things even cce the quality aint gonna be pucker.I mean say you have a dvd that is 7gb+ and the movie is about 1H50M.The bitrate is gonna be low and even low for the extras.

For some things i think(remember this is my opintion) its best to do a movie only back up or split it across two disc.I.e. Pearl Habour, 3 hour film, that i would say would be better to split as ive seen a 3 hour movie done with cce and the bitrate was low, and on my 28inch WS Trinitron sony tv connected with a high quality scart lead i could see slight pixalation, not crisp but still better than a svcd.
Also for example, only fools and horse's series 5, the dvd is 7gb+ plus if i remember right, all thats on it is the menu, one sub track and 6 episode.IMO this would be better split across 2 disc's, 3 episodes on one 3 on the other.

So What do you guys think.?

Thanks

Well, I have only done about 30 or so backups ang th quality is near perfect for the main movie. The extras may suffer a little, but 1850 br will still yield decent quality.

personally i would love to do all my backups with the big 3 and scenarist but i always seem to have a problem with some movies... but as for quality there is no other way that you can do that has better quality (imo) ...am going to give it another try on some other movies soon though :D as soon as i get my computer back up again

I'd say >60% of the DVDs I re-encode are 7.5-8.5 GB and I'm extremely proud of my backups. I have never seen the point to splitting a DVD, because to me that's just as annoying as an SVCD (ie. you have to get up and change the disc??! How luxury is THAT?!). All my backups are DVD9->DVD5, and like ShaneZ said, the extras may suffer at 1850 but they're not that great Q to begin with so really you don't lose much.

But don't take our word for it, get off your a** and try it! :D

btw: I'm in a good mood so I'm not gonna nitpick, but this thread IS grounds for a strike... all this info is available on this forum, and we really don't need every third user going, "how good is the big 3" all day long. One test run and you'd know the answer for yourself already.
