View Full Version : Shaky video when using full processing

Yo.
I am running virtualdub 1.5.1, and there has been something bugging me with all my encodes (xvid), even before my current vdub. For an odd reason, when I use Full processing mode, the video encoded has a tendency to sort of shake a few pixels or so at random times, but the source is perfectly fine. When I use fast recompress, I don't get the shakes at all. Its pretty annoying to me, since I tend to notice the whole picture bobbing up and down or so. Any suggestions?

Maybe it is the color space conversion, though I have not heard of this problem - and color space conversions should not do that (to the best of my knowledge), but the color space conversion is the only difference between fast and full processing (if you don't use any vdub filters).
What source are you trying to encode from (xvid, divx3.11, avisynth)? If you are using avisynth you could try a convert to RGB32 and see if it helps.
Any other info would help, like what you are trying to do, what filters (if any) you are using, what resolution the video is at, is it interlaced.

My usual filters are usually things like warpsharp, 2dcleaner, and smart smoother, but I doubt smoothing filters like these do anything that make the video jerky. The source is an avisynth script getting video data from a DVD, and I go for a 576x432 encode. I think it may have something to do with the Decimate and the inverse telecide settings I do. I'll try some more things, like rearranging stuff in my avisynth script, and the RGB32 conversion, but I doubt that it will work. I'll see if I get any progress.

So you only notice the shaking when using full processing mode, but you don't use any filters in vdub? Why would you want to use full processing?
The only thing I can think of that should make the picture shake up and down is a bob filter but that should make it shake all the time.

I use full processing, because I haven't fully found substitutes for avisynth 2.5 filters for vdub filters :D . In doing deinterlacing, I don't use a bob filter. I'll try to slap together an encode that doesnt use anything, but will do full processing, and see the results.
