View Full Version : Strange motion freezing

Hi folks!

I'm currently attempting to backup my R2-PAL version of "The West Wing", mainly because it's interlaced and looks not quite good on my beamer, and I want to pitch shift the audio in Wavelab to bring it back to it's original pitch.

I'm using Telecide(guide=2), which works like a charm most of the time. However, there are a few scenes here and there where it produces a somehow "motion freezed", choppy output which, for the lack of a better explanation, looks like a clip where the framerate was reduced (think about streamed LoQ-Quicktime music videos on band websites).

Now I looked into the field-structure, and most of the time it's pretty straight forward, regular PAL material, but sometimes there are single fields without a second one that contains the complying information. (My technical english sucks, I hope you know what I mean).

I don't do TV-sources often (as I mostly buy R1-versions of TV-shows, with the exception of Babylon 5, can't beat the price of the german box-sets), so can anyone tell me how to properly do these sources (especially the UK-version of the West Wing of course) so that they're progressive but without these glitches? And could anyone tell the technical reason why these "freezes" occur in the first place?
