Files larger than 2 GB becomes corrupt with iuVCR

I have tried different capture software and settings for three days now and I have come to the conclusion that iuVCR works best for me. But when I capture files larger than 2 GB or so, the files become corrupt and aren't readable by windows media player. zoomplayer opens it and i'm able to fast forward the avi but I can't play it and the harddrive is working constantly when i open the file. Avi synt can open it but don't read it correctly.

Anyone know a fix for this problem? I guess I can split the files and join them with avi synth but it is an extra step and i have a lot of avi's to capture

I tried to split the avi into 1 GB chunks but I got dropped frames at the split points. So I would really like to get files larger than 2 GB to work. Anyone know what the problem is?

I bought iuVCR because i wanted a WDM capture program which can deal with a Philips chipset. On my Win XP machine, having NTFS partitions only, I had no problems with capturing files as large as 60 GB. I didn't play with these "AVI compatibility index" etc. settings, though, so maybe one of these settings causes the problems. Your problem sounds like legacy AVI 1.0 2 GB limit.

By the way: I swapped to VirtulVCR recently, because I couldn't convince iuVCR to correctly capture the audio. Using VirtualVCR and the fabulous VVCR scheduler everything's working fine.

Turning of AVI compatibility seems to have fixed the problem :)

I tried Virtual VCR before and everything went fine when I captured from TV and a good VHS source, but when I captured an old tape that had many shot films on it I got dropped frames. The dropped frames made the audio fall out of sync in Virtual VCR but I don't have this problem in iuVCR. The weird thing is that iuVCR reports no dropped frames although I can see that it drops frames. Instead the fps counter goes below 25 fps. I don't think I get less dropped frames with iuVCR than with Virtual VCR but the sound stays in sync. I only capture clips shorter than 15 minutes so I don't know if iuVCR keep the sync on longer captures.

Well I thought I had fixed it, but after capturing some more I noticed that sometimes the files becomes corrupt anyway, even if they are not 2 GB. A little anoying as I have to capture some things two times to get them right.

Which codec do you use?

I use the HuffYUV codec. Before I turned off compability mode I could'nt open the file at all with media player. It said that it couldn't recognize the codec. Now it seems to recognize the video codec but not the audio codec (which is uncompressed PCM). But it only happens sometimes. Haven't captured that much yet so I don't know how often it happens.

Are you sure the corruption is caused by iuVCR and not the OS ?
You could try using another capture program (other than VirtualVCR) to see if the problem persists. I'm sure that even in VirtualVCR you can keep A/V sync by setting something in the program.
I have used iuVCR for some time now on my XP system (NTFS disks) and have no problems with 9+GB files (I use PicVideo MMJPEG compression at level 19). I then convert the AVI files to DVD using VirtualDUB frameserving to TMPGEnc so I don't view the AVI files in WMP.

I've been using iuVCR now for a while and I don't have the problem with corrupt files any longer. It must have been the capability option that made it, but it was weird that I got it one time just after turning it off. I have used Virtual VCR and had no problem with corrupt files with it. I used the "resample audio dynamically" option in Virtual VCR, but the audio quickly fell out of sync. The only other option to check in virtual VCR is adjust stream offset, but that only helps if the audio is offset and not when it gradually falls out of sync. I have been capturing 6 hours of video now with iuVCR and I get a good sync most of the time. Sometimes the audio is out of sync from the beginning. But I can adjust it in virtual dub by offsetting the audio.

I use HuffYUV to capture in 480*568, and then I resize it to 352*288 and encode it in TMPG to DVD. I had to lower the resolution to 352*288 because the source was so noisy and filmed with shaky hand camera that if I used a higher resolution the encoded files became blocky with encoding artifacts.
