View Full Version : Virtualdub/nandub/mod stopped being able to combine files
i finally got around to putting the audio and video together and find out that for some reason virtualdub nandub and vdubmod do not want to combine the files.
it had been working fine a while back and now it doesn't it gets an error saying "fastwritestream: The semaphore timeout period has expired" and before getting that error it will slow to 0 fps.
also i was getting errors when encoding... they were c++ runtime errors but i don't remember what they were.
also now i have a video file that i cannot seem to delete since for some reason even after just rebooting it is still in use by some program... and it cannot start up in any player.
if someone has any ideas as to what is going on it would greatly be appretiated. just ask me and i'll give ya more info. peace

hi and welcome to the forum,
a) wrong forum - newbie forum or VirtualDub and Virtualdubmod forum would have been a way better place to post this.
b) please use the search (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?s=) button as i'm sure those questions have been answered before!
thanks

i have been encoding for about 2 years now but never had any major trouble until now... which is why i need to get this figured out... the only major thing is that i changed motherboards recently but it was working on it about a week ago with my 2100+ now i have a 2600+ and it doens't want to get very far with the encoding. the major problem i was having was joining the files and i searched the forum for my exact error and found none. so since im thinking that most people would look at general i might as well put it there. and since it was more of a broadbased question than just the main one it seemed to fit even more in general.

yes i have and my system other than this is running great.
i did recently disable some services in winxp that sisoft sandra performance tune up reccomended i disable. and now i don't remember which ones i had disabled. i think that might be the cause but im unsure since i tried to reenable the ones that i did remember and it didnt help... so does anyone have a clue as to what might be going wrong. thanks

I am sorry but I am not sure what is causing this, I just wanted to say that I disabled all of the services that sandra recomended I disable (and some others I knew I didn't need) and it didn't do anything to my virtual dub. I am running XP pro with sp1.
ya i figured it out... the harddrive was gettin corrupted and so ya... for some reason harddrives like to do that to me.. both my 120 and my 200 gb have done about the same thing.. where they end up not being able to write to them.. and that was what was causing it.. so i reformatted and its working for now.. hopefully it won't happen again.
i get all the stupid problems that are like impossible to solve.... i hate it.
