dunno what to search for .. putting text in video

Hi I was trying to find the commands available in avisynth to see if I can put a footnote or a text throughout a video that I want to compress as a avi using nandub.

I don't even know if it is possible to do or not. My problem is I don't know what to type into the search because I don't know what its called to do that.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
