Are there any good cards with this new chip and good drivers avaiable yet ? I mean drivers that can capture full D1 (720 x 480/576) ?

TIA

The Asus TV Tuner card works fine. I capture TV shows from antenna to mjpeg at 640x480 and convert that to mpeg2 and burn it to DVD. When the disc is played on my DVD player and viewed on my TV the quality is good. The driver is stable and I've had no problems using the card with ShowShifter. It's also near the top of the user rankings on DVDRHelp:

I have an MSI TV@nywhere and have had no problems with drivers.
I tested the Xcapture drivers as well and they work the same but with no tuner support of course.
I capture 720x576 or 768x576 PAL via Svideo input, with no problems at all.
It just works. Quality is better then any BT8x8 card.

Thanks for your responses.

I have also read that CX23880/881 chips don't like interlaced material becuase of the 2D combing filters, is this true ? I'd like to capture video tapes and they are all interlaced and I want to keep it interlaced and put it on DVDs.

So your saying the source code is available for the Asus or MSI drivers right?

Can some of you guys tell me if the drivers that come with these cards are broken ?

Virtually all TV tuner/capture cards have drivers that are "broke",
and actually capture only 704x480, and internally resize that to
720x480. It's easy to check to see if you have "broke" capture
drivers; just capture some VHS tape material at 720x480, and it you
DON'T see a black band down the left side (and maybe right also,) you
have broken capture card drivers!

TIA

Who said anything about source code??
I use PAL, so testing at 720x480 is not relevent.

Hi Owen,

I'm glad it did'nt take you too long to get around to purchasing your capture card.

I'm interested in all such devices, as you may remember. So can you post some info regarding the capture kbps speeds you've been able to use (at 720x576) and how clean the image is?

Also, has any PAL capture user tried to capture an image at 1024x576 (true PAL 16:9).

I'm just curious!

Cheers

Owen: Even with PAL, if you test 768 x 576 you should see a black band down the left side (and maybe right also). If you don't see it then the caprture drivers are broken.

The only source code i know of that implements it is the source for DScaler.

Conexant would not release the specs. I tried what i could but since im a nobody and just wanted teh specs to have a proper driver...i was denied finally. You should try to get them, the more that try then maybe they might finally do it.

I used to use the msi myself...good card with good results. (just have a 1.7ghz+ system)
