I have some mpg files that i wanna join together, now i go to file > mpeg tools > cut and merge.I load the mpg files but after joining, when playing the video file back ,at the point where its joined tmpgenc seems to add a kinda squeak noise. The noise happens at every point where the video has been joined.

Any ideas to help me out, need to join them clean, no squeak.

Thanks

that's normal for that to happen, there's nothing you can do about it, unless your willing to edit the audio; meaning extract the audio, convert it to a *.wav, silence the part where noise occurs, and then re-encode the audio, and multiplex the new audio into the video.

it's more trouble than what it's worth, cause the audio would be a lower quality than the original.

there are other programs that can merge *.mpg, can't really think of any, except for ifilmedit, but it's not free, and it usually cuts off a couple of frames at the end, but hey, no noise.

I know this is convoluted, but if you are willing to take the time this will work. Tmpg dvdauthor does a excellent job. I had a similar problem and this solved it for me. load your file in order under one title and burn it to a dvd rw. Start the prog again and add a movie from disk. Dvdauthor will pull the file off the disk and save it to HD as a dvd compliant file in perfect working order. I found this by accident. It's a lot of time involve, but like I said, It did solve this problem for me.

That will only be helpful if he has or even wants MPEG-2 files. And depending on the MPG files he starts out with, dvdauthor might reencode them. Thus losing quality on the picture. It is bad enough to have a squeak in the audio every now and then but if that is intolorable, I would recommend reencoding the audio B4 the video...
But again, this depends on what he starts with and wants to end with for MPEG file types

only useful if he actually has a dvd burner; the squeak can be very harmful to the ears if they're listening with headphones.

you will hear a loud pop, follow by a lifetime of silents.
