Hi all,
on my Sony DVD player i can watch any backup i make (DVD+R/RW). The manual for the player says that it's DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW compatible. I want to buy a new inexpensive Panasonic for my kids, however, but it says DVD/DVD-R/DVD-RAM/CD-R&RW/MP3 on the Panasonic box. There is no mention of DVD+R/RW. Is this only a commercial trick because Panasonic officially supports only DVD-R/RAM formats and then i'll be fine playing backup disks, or should i better stay away from Pan?

Thanks

Based on what u report here, it doesn't support '+' discs officially. But my philips officially doesn't support svcd playback but actually it is very good at it.

If u want to play it safe and since your concern is dvd+r play ability, u should avoid this model. However take a visit at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvd and check the model number on the compatibility table. It may support '+r' besides what it writes on the box.

I can't speak on all Panasonics but I own the cp-72 and the manual states exactly what you said however I can play all formats of dvds on it just fine. If you buy it from a b&m store they usually will let you return it if your not happy with it.

99% chance it will play, the only company I know that make incompatible with +R drives is Toshiba.

Generaly DVD+R format is recogonized as usual DVD-ROM.
