View Full Version : Maestro: getting rid of pointless audio/sub streams in video_ts

I've been already told that it is a known bug that Maestro puts 8 audio and 32 subtitle streams into the video_ts even though only 2 and 2 are used. The corresponding vts_xx files do however have the correct number of streams.

Still, in some cases these unreferenced streams seem to confuse tools like DVD2ONE or DVD Shrink which I need to use on my selfmade DVDs to reduce them from 5.0 GB to 4.37. Thus I'd like to know how I could get rid of those entrances in the ifos. I've tried Ifoedit but whenever I clicked on the line it says 'item not editable'. For a test I deleted all ifos (after backing them up of course) and let Ifoedit create new ones. Apart from getting the well known blurred green subtitles (which I could fix) I unfortunately lost the ability to jump between the three eps by using my remote's 'menu'-key, which was why I authored the DVDs manually rather than using DVD Shrinks re-author function in the first place.

Any help to workaround Maestro's bug is appreciated...

On any item that IfoEdit says in not editable, it means it has no context driven editor. You may always hex edit by double clicking on the entry, or, if that fails, on the next higher structure.
The main thing to change is the number of streams.

Well, I'm still blind and stupid. When I open up the video_ts.ifo I get

Number of title sets on this DVD: 3
Title Set 1:

VTS_1 Video: Mpeg2 720x576 (PAL)
VTS_1 Audio 1: English
VTS_1 Audio 2: Deutsch
VTS_1 Audio 3: English
VTS_1 Audio 4: English
VTS_1 Audio 5: English
VTS_1 Audio 6: English
VTS_1 Audio 7: English
VTS_1 Audio 8: English

Where can I delete the entries for streams 3-8? Also, if I do manage to find the next higher entry and change it accordingly to 2 streams and 2 subpics, do the detailed subentries automatically get deleted from the ifo as well?

In case you wanna have a look at my ifos (http://chetwood.netfirms.com/toomuch.html) (16KB)...

Open the ifo with IfoEdit, click on VTSI_MAT, scroll down to location [203] for audio streams, [255] for subpictures.

Yeah, that's what I thought and what I did. Still, after having reduced those entries to the actual number of streams, the entries of the non-existent streams 3-8 and 3-32 still remain in the following lines. As well, the video_ts file does not get changed at all so I end up with the same wrong video_ts and an even more messed up vts_xx which might confuse ripping and other programs even more. So, is there another way/tool to circumvent this 'limitations'? Thanks again.

I'm not aware of another program to fix this.

Yes, to be complete, you should also change the copies of each vts that are kept in video_ts.ifo. Open it up and click on VMG_VTS_ATRT and go through all the vts there.

The count is all that should matter, but you could also zero out the extra entries if you feel it is bothering some program.
