changing resolutions

hi all,

i am a n00b and i have an avi here.. just want to change it from 1024x768 into 640x480 how and what apps i need?

I'm not sure how you managed to get a 1024x768 video, but virtualdub (on the site's download page) or avisynth will do the job. If the video is encoded in yuv you would be better off using avisynth to resize. In vdub just go to filters and use the resizing filter (anything but nearest neighbor ;) ), or in avisynth write a script like
avisource("path/file.avi")
lanczosresize(640,480)
and open the script in whatever app you want to encode with.

Also a side note, you will lose some quality from having to renecode your movie.
