WME9: Error using DVD2AVI v1.77.3 d2v file input

I am currently neck-deep in playing with WMV9 and WMA9 using Windows Media Encoder v9.00.00.2980. As my usual routine, I prepared my .d2v file, cropping, and avisynth script using GKnot 0.28.5.1. I then feed the script to WME9 and set the little bugger up for a custom session: Selecting 'Both device and file' for the source, setting up the Output tab, then the Compression tab and Processing tab, yadda... yadda...The avisynth script loads just fine, but when the encoding starts the preview window just displays this error message: 'Evaluate: Unrecognized Exception'blah blah bah. Im a total dumbass and have no idea what that means even if my life depended on it. Stumped, i decided to try the 1.76 version of DVD2AVI to generate my .d2v file. I then edited my script to point to that new d2v file and fed the avs to WME9, and voila! The little brat chugged happily along and gave me my first successful wmv9 rip with 5.1 audio. Heh. The reason I'm posting this is I want to know if there's anybody else who encountered the same error, anybody who can confirm it. Or is there something wrong in my setup? I'm on WinXP SP1 and to repeat: I used GKnot 0.28.5.1 and its included DVD2AVI to generate the .d2v.
Seeing that there's very little posts on wmv9, I don't expect a lot of response and I know the majority here hates M$ so...

Are you sure your using MPEG2Dec3 v1.08 as the MPEG2Dec3.dll thats loaded? Thats the only MPEG2Dec that supports v1.77.3 d2v files.

Hahah yer.. I've had the same troubles more or less with 1.77.3.. Without really knowing what I was doing, and a lot of trial and error, the only version of dvd2avi which has worked was 1.76..

Awesome. I tried MPEG2Dec3 v1.08 and it worked. Thanks guys for helping out another clueless retard.

Looks like I'm not the only one suffering here, heheh. I think I really like the results I'm getting though. Now I can play more with this baby. I really like to leverage the functionality of DVD2AVI 1.77.3 in demuxing and ripping DTS tracks. Then use that as source for transcoding to 5.1 WMA, that's after transcoding the DTS to wav's of course. But WMV9 is just so awfully slow, dunno if its the codec or the encoder, I have no idea. A typical 1hr 30min film took me 25hrs to finish using 2-pass VBR peak mode. And in terms of file size predictability, well I'm practically driving blind. Can't M$ put this thing on steroids or something? If I have a hundred or more DVD's to backup it will only take me 10 years of non-stop encoding on my faithful 1gig AMD Tbird, not bad since I can use my electric meter as additional fan to cool my rig. Heh. I do like this codec.
