Hi guys
I have encoded a avi file into a dvd video file using DVD2SVCD and TMPGEnc, but the final output file is larger than 4.3gb, How can i get it to fit onto a single Dvd disk, and what program will i need.
Thanks in advance

u can't. Dvd2svcd encodes at 480x480, or 480x576 a resolution incompatible with dvd specs. U can go around it by patching the video to fool the authoring program but it isn't as efficient as aiming for dvd resolution in the first place.
Since u want to end up with a dvd, why don't u encode for dvd? U can use a lower average bitrate. Most 2 hours movies demand an average bitrate of around 3000 to 3300kbs to fit in a dvd-r.

4,3 GB is 4,3 GB ofcourse. You ask the same as how can I put 800 MB on a 650 MB CD-ROM that's not possible ofcourse.
You have two options:
1)encode again and calculate the bitrate correctly so it does fit
2)create a dvd form it and use any of the one click solutions (dvdshrink etc) to reduce the size (and suffer on quality) so it will fit.
and BTW you can create dvd compliant files with dvd2svcd.

Hi influenza
I am pretty new to DVD2SVCD/dvd encoding etc etc
Would you or other members be kind enough to give me step by step instructions on how to calculate the bitrate correctly in order to fit onto a 4.3 dvd using DVD2SVCD. I have 3 avi files that are roughly 700MB each in size. If you use these sizes as an example in your instructions, that would be really helpful.
@oddyseus
I was encoding for DVD, its just that i am not familiar on how to work the bitrate out for my 3 hour movie.
thanks

check this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57874&highlight=bitrate+calculator) and its proposed application in jggimi's reply.

thanks addyseus, i check that in a mo.
I thought there was a built in system in DVD2SVCD where you can tell it to encode to a specific size? i.e 4.3gb

In the bitrate section you can set the desired output size based on the length of your movie

I have three avi files (700mb) each - that i want to make one DVD out of. So i guess i will be ok to put 4438 as the output size?
thanks

4438 would be per file I guess so 4438/3. Also give yourself some room fo the authoring muxing. About 200 MB should do.
