Im having a problem converting a certain file (John Q) I'm getting the message "compression rate not compatatable with imput file. I've tried everything i know (not an enormous amount- even with the guide).
Ive searched the faq's but to no avail. I know there's probably a troubleshooter somewhere on this site but i can't find it.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly apprieciated!!!

Cheers

Welcome to the forum:

A little more information would be helpful. Which format conversion are you attempting? DVD2SVCD, DVD2DVDR, etc.? Which conversion program/s are you using? By the time you read this, you may have run more tests, if so, post the results of these, also. While your file is converting, or your tests are running, take the time to go over the forum rules again, there's plenty of good information in them. That is, if your processor is capable of letting you convert a file and access your OS's other applications at the same time :). Give us more to work with, and we'll help you all we can. Good luck!

Sorry about that - Im converting an avi [Edited by moderator for violation of rule 6] and using virtual dub to change the audio to a .wav file in order for me to convert the whole file to mpg using MPGenc.
The only unusual information about about the file i can spot is the compression is the compression is apparently "unknown- Tag 2000"

Hope this is helpfull
Thanks a lot for your time

You must have missed the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) when you signed up.6) No warez, cracks, serials or illegally obtained movies!...

You might want to download "gspot" from Doom9. Load the video of your cousins wedding (use the edit button) into gspot and see if you can tell what codec's are used. Also does it "play" on your computer? Might have to do the "save wav file" thing from virtualdub then convert the audio with another program....like bsweet.

There were two references pointing to the Forum Rules in this thread, it seems that both of them were either ignored, or misinterpreted. Mentioning downloaded files is against forum rules, as well as giving help on such files. In addition to being a violation of the rules, it is both illegal and unethical for us to issue help on these files. Hey fellas, it's simple.....read the rules and get to know them, it makes life easier for all of us. There will soon be a sticky at the top of the Newbies homepage detailing forum policy on downloaded files, until then, check out Markrb's Sticky (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43617/) from the Basic Topics forum, ours will be much the same.
