I've been ripping an anime (Berserk..) with both audio streams and subtitles. Since I wanted them on/offable I just subripped them and muxed them in - this works great in VdubMod because it even autocorrects timevalues when you split into episodes. But after I ripped a couple dvds I actually went back and tried to watch past the intro with subs on.
Well, let's see.. ZoomPlayer doesn't even let me use the subs. It detects the stream but doesn't do anything when I turn it on.
bsplayer was what I originally tested with; it'll run the subs, and they seem in sync... up until the intro song. In the intro song they're out of sync by about one sub (so he says a line, THEN it shows up) and it just gets worse as time goes on. It's almost like the subs are showing up as if it was 29.97fps and the video is of course 24.97. By the midpoint they're completely out of sync, at least 20 seconds off.
If I demux the .srt, and let DVobsub handle it, it works fine, perfect sync and everything. I even checked the file - it's identical to the original! There aren't any frame numbers in it, it's all timecodes, so why would this happen?
Of course, this could be my PC mucking up, as it has been crashing the players at random intervals... but has anyone else had this problem? I've tried both MKV and OGM formats, and they both come out this way. (MKV has the interesting property of also munching large RAM and CPU for a while when opened. I think it's indexing it, cause it does slow down at first but if you stop and wait a few seconds it will run smoothly.)
