i have two computers
1) dual 500mhz xeon with 512 ram
2) intel p3 1000mhz with 384 ram
im wondering will all versions of virtual dub mainly vdubmod and fcc handler's version take full advantage of dual processors or would i be better off using my faster but only single processor computer. thnx

There's many more variables involved that determine speed besides clock speed and memory bandwidth. So there is no way to know, until YOU try it out.

.. but in general I would put my money on the 1ghz p3 ;)

As far as I know most of the encoding apps are not multi-cpu aware. When I upgraded my encoding machine to a dual 1.2 from single 1ghz I got 1fps more when encoding. If you look at the task manager usage, the second processor isn't being touched at all.

There was a VDubMod Version 1.4.13 i thought that could spread simply 1pass encoding over the network, perhaps u should try this on a dualsystem or look at the src. the idea behind that was very simple its cut the movie in to little pieces. u also could do the audioencoding on multipel boxes, but was experimental.
