Getting back into the dvd scene

Hello, I was getting into the dvd stuff awhile back, before DoItFast4U or
whatever its called came out. My question is, could someone tell me the minimun utilities i need and best ones to go through the process of recreating a dvd to fit on a dvd-5 disc. I have some of the original once but im sure that they have been replaced by now.
