Hello, I have ripped a dvd off the disk, using Smartripper, i have all the VOB's list's and info file's from the Ripping. I am using TMPGEnc to encode the vob's to Mpeg2 so i can write them to a disk. TMPGEnc doesn't or cannot handle compressed audio so i have tried to use besweet, VOBRaptor, and lastest one Vstrip to get the audio seperate from the video for TMPGEnc to use it. I used vstrip with best result's so far i got a file it is *.VOB but TMPGEnc cannot read it so i am back to being lost agian. If anyone can point or tell me what i am missing, i know it is something simple i just cannot figure it out. Thanks so much,

hi and welcome to the forum!
a few points to your problem and your post
what are you trying to accomplish? do you want a DVD or SVCD as result?
for getting the audio out of the vob files you can use DVD2AVI. just create a new project and select audio > demux all
have you looked at doom9.org? there's tons of guides there that can guide you through almost every task you can imagine!
a quick glance into the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), especially rule #1 and #9
after you've read the rules you surely know what comes next: pls change your title to one that describes your problem a bit more

Hello, to the forum by me too.
Tmpeg accepts avi as input and provides mpeg audio and video as output. U have to transform your vobs to avi before feeding Tmpeg.
U can do this by using dvd2avi as steve suggested, along the video u will have a d2v project as well.
A quick approach to make your avi is to install vfapi codec and run your file through. It will produce a pseudoavi for Tmpeg to work on and give u your mpeg file.
Read about vfapi in these guides from doom9 site
vfapi faq (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/vfp-faq.htm)
basic set up (http://www.doom9.org/sbc-basicsetup.htm)
installation guide (http://www.doom9.org/install.htm)
full guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/vfapi_reader_codec.htm)
Another much more powerfull avenue is by using avisynth, that I am sure u have heard about. But u can skip this for now until u r feeling confident on frameserving with vfapi.

I will try dvd2avi hopfully that will work. I am trying to make a stripped down copy of my DVD's. I own an RV and me and the wife travel lot's not long time just lot's of trip's. I have over 200 DVD movies and it just a pain to move them from the house to the RV ever weekend or every two. I would like to have a backup copy my my stuff i can just leave on the RV that way I don't have to move them many time's. I thought about keeping menu's and special's and all that stuff but after you seen it once or twice you don't need it anymore. So i want to make a stripped down copy of a movie. I hope this make's sense. I will try the DVD2AVI program and maybe that will do what i need thanks very much for the quick answers.

why don't you give DVDShrink a try? it will speed up your conversion process significantly and on main movie only copies you will not notice a significant quality decrease.
here's (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdshrink2-main.htm) the guide!

I have to agree with steve on this. U have to try dvdshrink or dvd2one if I may add. Both of them have quite acceptable output quality, especially when the main movie is close to the limit barrier, much faster than the manual approach, u ll end up with the image to burn in less than an hour. A very convinient time frame for a last minute decision on what to watch.

I used dvdshrink to get it off and it work's great fast and very easy to understand. Thanks for those input's they work great. Now my problem is i am using Roxio's DVD Builder and when i select the VOB file to burn to a disk Roxio say's that AC3 isn't supported and silence will be added to the selected space. Should i be using some other program to burn the disk or is Roxio ok and i am just doing it wrong. I have d/l the demo of Nero but it doesn't see my DVD, well it see the drive but it doesn't give me the option to select DVD from the wizard's menu only CD. Most likly due to being the demo. Any help please.

I would use Image Tool Classic (downloadable in the doom9.org download section) to create a DVD iso image from the files created by DVDshrink. then burn the image with any burning program that supports image writing, i usually use DVDdecrypter but I guess Roxio can do the job too!
