I have backed up some of my ps2 games but on some of the cut sequences (video scenes) the sound jumps and the speech sometimes cuts off and repeates (but the original game is perfect), im using ritek g03 discs on a pioneer 104 using the latest version of nero to burn, i dont have any problems backing up my dvd films on these discs so could anyone offer me any advice please.

First thing I'd suggest is use Record Now Max 4.5 by Stomp instead of Nero. Make a global image of the original disc and burn it back at 1x. If this doesn't help I'd suggest trying a better quality disc. I too tried budget media (Datasafe, Datawrite, Bulkpaq etc) and these never worked well (if at all) on the PS2.

Assuming they are truly Riteks i would not doubt the quality of the media. In fact, for PS2 i would say Ritek is a sure bet for winning. Possibly try burning at 1x in Nero but so long as you are working with images i dont see why you are having trouble.

Maybe it's that burner you have ;-)

I believe my discs are genuine ritek they have a dark purple layer & dvd decrypter says the manufacturer ID on the disk is RITEKG03. I never doubted the quality of these discs as i said i have no trouble with dvd films. My PS2 is new and hasnt had a lot of use so i know the laser is in good condition and by the way i am making a nero image (*.nrg) from the original PS2 game and burning back at 1x.

I havnt tried record now max but will try and get it to try it out. I also fell into the trap (when i first had my burner) of buying cheap media like idbirch2 said and had all sorts of trouble but ritek seems quite reliable.

Maybe the problem might lie with my burner.

Its little things like this that really bug me.

Thanks for your replys.

The PS2 is known to be a little picky when it comes to media. I'd suggest getting some Verbatim or perhaps Apple/Maxell media and see if the problem persist. I be that will clear it up. Also if you get the verbatim be sure to the the ones that SAY 2x on the box, else you may get the bad CMC coded ones that were floating around.

I can attest to the PS2 being less forgiving than standalone DVD players or DVD-ROM drives. I've burned about 2 dozen PS2 discs and well over 1000 DVDs (All RitekG3's). A couple of my PS2 games are flakey and it seems to be the crappy DVD drive in the PS2. Where I can get away with a flaw or speck of dirt on a DVD player, not on the PS2.
