View Full Version : improve signalstrength during dts->mp3

the 1st time i am make an mp3 from a dts...:
the conversion works without a problem.
During action scenes(voices, screaming, weapons...) the signal level is very good but in the scenes with just some voices its seems as whispering.
the other soundtracks (ac3, other language...) sound ok.
should i accept this as "this is how we putted the dts together"
or are there other possibilities?
maybe coverting to a wav and then use a editor to manually boost the parts that need a boost ?

thanks

What are you using to transcode to MP3? Are you normalizing in any way? When you transcode to AC3, do you use DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) ? IMO editing the .wav isn't worth the time.

i use latest besweet with the mp3->avi profile,
which uses 'hybridgain'.
i do not make ac3's ...

Sorry, I may have misunderstood your question. But AC3's DRC can be used when decoding too. DRC decreases the volume of loud sounds and increases the volume of soft sounds ( i.e. dynamic range compression). Which could be why your AC3-->mp3 is okay but DTS is too quiet. If that is the case, there may not be much else you can do. To my knowledge DTS has nothing like DRC. Some logfiles from BeSweet might help too. hth,
