Hi guys
I use DVD2SVCD, when CCE opens it first generates a video information file which usually takes 1 hour and 40 mins for a 1 hour and 30 mins video and then it generates the .mpv file in the same time as above. Firstly i wanted to ask why is there a need for video information file and is there a way to speed up the encoding process with CCE without affecting the output of the video. I have a pentium 4 2hgz, windows xp, 512ram. Is this the expected time to do the above using my system?
Thanks

If you read the CCE manual it explains what the VAF is for. In multipass VBR, at least 2 passes are performed, where the encoder encodes the video once, gathers information from the process, then uses it in further encodes. During the 1st pass, CCE creates the VAF file and in subsequent passes it updates this file with new information it gathers. This allows the encoder to better allocate bits. If you want to skip this process than you will have to either encode in 1 pass VBR or CBR.
Your encoding speed does seem a little slow, but I'm not sure what would be causing that. I get close to double that speed on a 1.33 AMD.

Are you frameserving to CCE? If so, what filters are you using? Filters are notorious at slowing down encoding.

Sorry, I skipped over your statement that you were using DVD2SVCD. Unfortunately, this approach doesn't teach you about the what's and why's of what you are doing.
Recheck your options to see if you are using any filters, or re-sizing. Also, check to make sure that you don't have any other heavy usage programs running while encoding (use TaskManager).

You should have a file with the extention of .AVS that you need to post the contents here so that we can view your filters (if any).
