A half-height dvd+r/+rw? Bastards I thought it was going to be a full size like most of their other stuff. Oh well, any problem with mounting this in a regular 5.25" drive bay, other than it looking funny? How about a price/avalability on them? Haven't seen any news on that front yet.

Full size = 9 cm (what hard discs had 20 years ago)

I have no idea what you talk about. You've asked a question, and I explained that you misunderstood "half height".

If you had looked closely at the drives specs, you would have found that it is 145x41x170, just as any other drive.

You shouldn't confuse half height with slim size.

A swedish webshop says 24 july and a Danish 1 august

But the price is still too high. It costs more than the NEC1100. But once it's out on the market in large numbers and bulk-versions then I'm sure it's going to drop.

The Danish shop now says 8 august. But the price has dropped $60 to $185 since my last post :)

The drive has been out for a couple weeks, but I haven't seen any reviews, but there is a sort of user testimonial/observations here:

anyone seen some more info on this drive?

No, but the price keeps on dropping. Down another $50 to $135 :)

The age of the cd-burners is finally over :D

There is a Korean review of the Lite-On drive here (http://www.storageinfo.co.kr/~innundo/review/ldw401s/ldw401s.htm). Use Babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr) if you need a translation ;)

I just installed the lite-on 401s, It works great it makes almost no noise at all. The only way I know it's burning is by looking at the lite on the drive. I've only burned 7 discs with it, but so far everyone has been just fine and I'm using sam's club verbatim media which was $45.00 for 30 discs.
