This might be an RTFM question (very likely indeed) but on my windows machine I couldn't figure any straitforward way. thanks for any help.

There is a thread at hydrogenaudio where some guys are working on a VB script to output Quicktime AAC from EAC:

I would use the latest beta of foobar2000 0.7 (which includes the latest foo_mp4 plugin) to do the batch tagging.

I.e. quicktime does not provide this out of the box? Where are these people living ?

In the United States of America... ;) And no, as far as I know QuickTime 6 can't batch encode and doesn't tag the MP4 files either. For this the Apple version uses iTunes4 (or iTunes rather uses the QT codec), but that application isn't available for Windows yet.

If you want to try out the solution that lazyn00b suggested you could also transcode directly from any input format that foobar2000 can read to AAC with the CLI encoder that is also part of the special installer package from Case. This means that you don't need large temporary multichannel WAV files while ripping a DVD to AAC anymore. The encoder would have to be FAAC of course, because neither QuickTime's nor Nero's codecs are accessible with that method and PsyTEL has a multichannel bug.
