View Full Version : Extras woven into main titleset vob files?

After doing quite a bit of searching in this forum for an answer to my question, I'm starting to wonder if it has been addressed before. I'm sure it has somewhere, but I'm having a great deal of trouble finding it. Lately I've been noticing on certain movies that some of the extras are woven into the main movie titleset vob fies. So far three movies that I can think of off the top of my head that I experienced this problem with have been: The Wizard of Oz, The Shining, and now, Scarface. I typically use DVD95COPY for about all of my backups, which will work for these movies, but unfortunately I am forced to lose movie quality since I have not been able to get rid of these extras.

As an example, let's use Stanley Kubrick's, The Shining. The problem that I'm running into is that there is only one titleset, but there is about 30 minutes of a 'making The Shining' special feature that is woven into the main movie titleset. The actual movie starts about 4 minutes and 15 seconds into VTS_01_2.VOB. Is there an easy way to reauthor this this titleset to remove the special feature? Has anyone else run into a problem like this before with any other movie?

This is what I'm working with using The Shining:

VIDEO_TS.BUP: 10 KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO: 10 KB
VTS_01_0.BUP: 116 KB
VTS_01_0.IFO: 116 KB
VTS_01_0.VOB: 1,884 KB
VTS_01_1.VOB: 1,048,1574 KB
VTS_01_2.VOB: 1,048,1574 KB
VTS_01_3.VOB: 1,048,1574 KB
VTS_01_4.VOB: 912,776 KB
VTS_01_5.VOB: 1,048,1574 KB
VTS_01_6.VOB: 1,048,1574 KB
VTS_01_7.VOB: 1,048,1574 KB
VTS_01_8.VOB: 952,212 KB

Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to offer any suggestions to me.

I happens a lot that some extras (mostly trailer or so) are in the main vts set. Normaly this doesn't use too much space, but 30 minutes is a lot ofcourse.

I don't know the layout of your ifo, but I would guess that there's an PGC containing the bonus material. If you want to get rid of it you should demux the title and replace the video in the pgc with some blanks. For this you should use some authoring program.
If I would know the structure of your ifo I could be of more assistance.

I believe dvdshrink has an reauthor mode, but I don't know if you can leave complete pgcs out 9don't think so)

The only reason extras get put into a seperate titleset (vts) is that most are made-for-tv. This means they are 4:3, whereas the movie is 16:9, and therefore can not be placed in the same titleset. But if the movie and extras have the same video attributes it actually saves space to put them into the same titleset (albeit a small amount, the ifo and bup files)
In all cases where extras can be viewed sperate from the movie, they will have their own PGCs, and this is how you should sort them out.

And, yes, DVDShrink can pick and choose by PGC, in addition to trimming the start/finish (in case the movie and extras are in one PGC)

But you would still be left with an extra of 30 minutes to encode. using dvdshrink you can leave this out and save some bitrate for better encoding. Just find out what PGC is the extra, should be not to difficult based on duration and leave this out. You can also choose the doitfast4u, docc4u an reauthorist path and leave the pgc with extras out in Reauthorist which will create a dummy PGC in scenarist then.

Hi,
The reason I said dvd2one is that it will do the complete dvd with extras and the menu , easy peasy , however if you dont want the extras , it can still be done , select main movie , it doesnt give you a menu however , perhaps dvd shrink does this , if it does , then great, use that , but if you want to definately make sure the extras are missing and you only have the main movie,do the following :

1) get a programme called chopperXP
2) delete every thing but the vob files with the movie on it
(vob_01_2 onward )
3) Use chopper Xp to delete the 2 mins at the start of vob_01_2
4) It will create a new vob file , rename that to vob_01_1
5) re-name the rest of the vobs to go in succession with the new
Vob_01_1 ( vob_01_2,vob_01_3 etc )
6) get a programme called ifoedit
7) open up ifoedit and select create ifo files
8) select vob_01_1 and it will then creat the ifo files to make the
resulting vob files into a working dvd file
9) open up the new video_ts file in ifo edit and select get vts
sectors click ok a few times and then you will have a movie with
no extras

happy editing
:p
