I just got my first DVD writer.

For months now, I knew that would need to buy a dual drive, and when i saw the post from Doom9 news page about the Pioneer A06, I knew that this was the model I had to get.

I went in to Futureshop (Best Buy in Canada) without knowing about the release of the A06. It wasn't even on the shelf, it was still in a box in the back store. But while talking to the salesman about the Pine Dual Drive, I had talked about waiting for the A06. And to my surprise, he said that he had gotten it Friday...

First of all, it still has the same 2x Read lock. I can't seam to rip at more than 2.1x. I'm affraid of trying the firmware for the A05 that makes it possible to rip at a faster speed, so I won't.

The DVD+RW is only 2.4x, and not 4x like the sony. (But I seem to recall something about the sony not working well with DVD+RW at 4x speed)

And, on a last note, i have reason to beleive that the DVD+R 4x recording is even faster than my friends Sony. (but I can't comfirm it yet)

COOL COOL COOL!!!
i envy you...in the nicest possible way... :D

Let us know how you go ...

Also if you think to run some tests using the 'scandisc' feature of Nero's CD Speed util, i'd be really interested to know if you have damaged media.

I envy all you guys in the States !!! Buying a DVD burner is like buying a CD Writer over there it seems. Here by me in SA we don't even have multi format DVD burner as a viable option yet let alone any other burner. If you can find one it goes at about $395.00 with the current exchange rate !!!

If only I could shop on www.newegg.com like you guys I'd have a field day !!! Personally I'm after the TDK 440 Indi DVD burner which is also multi format and comes in default black which matches my case.
I think it has the same speeds as the Pioneer.

I'm so desperate to get access to some good products I'm even planning a trip to the States hopefully. So if any one can get me stuff from Newegg please drop me a line.

I'm expecting this drive on Wednesday!(Just over €200 euro)
Looks solid. Major differences between it and the Sony is it has a 2mb buffer compared to the Sony's 8mb.

It has alot of features new to the dvd market:
DRT-DM (Distributed Real Time Defect Management)
Ultra DRA (Dynamic Resonance Absorber)

Apparently very good at writing to bulk media.
There is also a new 1.06 firmware released from pioneer last Saturday.

The below is after the new firmware is installed:

There are huge differences between both firmwares.

Since the recent firmware release, we can expect more hacks soon (higher ripping speed?)
RPC-2 Firmware (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1615) recently too.

I can't wait to test it!

Have mine fitted and installed and absolutely no problems yet (fingers crossed) I have updated the firmware too and no issues. Burned 3 DVD-Rs so far and seems ok. All 3 discs ate playable. Pretty good drive I think.
