Hi, I have sony vaio P2@366Mhz laptop.
I've been using powerDVD, but sometimes I get
jerky playback.
I'm looking for software player recommendations
that's gentle on CPU .
Anybody knows?
Thanks.

It might be simply borderline performance-wise ... I used to play DVD on a K6-2/400 system with Powerdvd 2.5x and it was just barely acceptable (depended quite a bit on the graphics card).
Did your Sony originally come with a dvd drive? It should have included a player, then ...

It did, it's pcg-f350, it has neomagic magic media 256/av video chipset,
with 2.5 MB memory.
It does have hardware acceleration for DVD playback.
DVD drive is in DMA mode and hd acceleration is checked.
