The consensus is that CCE can produce better results than TMPGEnc in some cases. It's more expensive. Guides for DVD encoding with TMPGEnc, CCE, or ReMPEG2 can be found here (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdencoding.htm)

In addition you will need an authoring program to create all the files necessary to play the DVD correctly!

And if I may add to steve's post, these, authoring progs, would be the freeware ifoedit or the commrecial ones such as mydvd, dvdit, dvdlab, dvdauthor just to name a few. Possibly u allready have one authoring programm in your posession already. Almost all of the dvdburners r shipped bundled with one.

For simple authoring projects it is very good. It even can accept avi files and transcode them to mpeg2 video.

I have no personal experience with this program, but afaik it should suffice for basic DVD authoring - which is most likely everything you need!

this of course depends on your system aswell as the method you are using. with my 2.0 GHz rig i'm getting about 1.5 real time using CCE 2.5 0 and avisynth 2.5.2 It is recommended to do at least 3 or 4 passes in CCE though so for a normal hollywood movie it will take 5 to 6 hours I'd say. of course this also depends on the kind of filtering you apply!
