Hi.

As nero will soon ofer the new program with the new promising AAC[HE] format and I havent found the answer to my question Ill just post it here.

I know the biggest purpose for the SBR is to optimize the lower bitrates and as AAC already seems promissing that would be a big advantage. Now I love musik and whant the best quality at resonable filesize when ripping my cd collection. Upp till now my favourtie format have been AAC using nero and the extreme preset. This gives for my ears good quality and birates of about 200 Kbps. Would I gain anything by using SBR on such high bitrate or would it just destroy/be impossible to use. As I know I will upgrade my musik equiptment even furter in the futhure I like to have high quality, so when upgrading having musik files that can be fully enjoyed.

Hope it made any sense and that someone will enlighten me.

aac-he is focused on streaming, it's a compromise!
it's a semi-revolution in terms of quality of low-bitrate streams, but no improvement in pure terms of quality.

only AAC-LC for me :D !

So best quality is to stick to my regular AAC files using the extreme preset for musik and if I in the future I have a movie with not so important audio maybe try AAC SBR.

As DSPguru said, at 200 kbps HE-AAC will only be of advantage if you encode a 5.1 DD track, but certainly not for a Stereo file .... MPC would probably perform best at this bitrate, but unfortunately there is no way of using it with video right now, and it seems that we have to wait a long time for that still :( ....
