is it possible to convert a dat file to xvid because when i try to do it i get errors in vdub if i use anything but divx 4 low motion. is it because vcd is mpeg 1 and xvid is not a mpeg 1 codec. anyway how do you guys convert your vcds to xvid. thnx

use vcdgear to convert the .dat to .mpg.

Vdub(mod) hanles vcd(dat) very good for me, by the way, if you only can convert to divx4, you should also be able to convert to any other mpeg-4 codec. Tell us your settings and error number, and maybe anyone can help you .

i use vcd gear to convert the dat to mpeg then i try to convert that to divx 4 low motion and it gets a little thorugh the enconding and gives me a vdub critical error. her is what it gives me. VirtualDub crash report -- build 15654 (release)

but i think i found the problem its not a vcd its a kvcd. all i want to do is convert it to xvid because no standalone dvd player supports this kvcd. sorry about the length of the post and thnx for your help

if you meant divx4 (as you wrote) dont use it ;) -> use divx5 or xvid instead

arent all this codecs that your a mentiononing mpeg 4 codecs when the vcd i am using is mpeg 1 ? also i try to follow doom9's guides but when i do i get this error that you see above and when i try to use divx 5 or xvid it wont even start the encoding. i have also tried vdubmod with no luck. should i use fast recompress or full process mode.

If the kvcd is wrapped with an mpeg2 header you'll have to demux it first.
