So I guess I'm too obsessive about this. Even when I was using DivX I would re-encode the entire film if the file was 698MB just to squeeze in an extra 1kbps bitrate. But with DivX, you had to redo both the 1st-pass and 2nd-pass files. Am I correct in saying that this is not the case with Xvid? In other words, I can run a single 1st-pass Xvid then run any number of 2nd-pass Int. runs with different target filesizes until I get it as close to 700MB as possible, right?
Xvid is going to introduce a whole new level of obsessiveness to my process as I can specify the target filesize down to the KB instead of just specifying the bitrate in DivX which will usually change the filesize in steps of 700KB at a time. I already have a dedicated Athlon 2400 encoding machine, but now I might need another one. :)
