I am capturing over 12 hours of avi video of a static scene (my house) sort of like a security camera.

But i don't relish sitting thru 12 hours of video to see if there's anything abnormal, even high speed playback will be a little tedious.

So I tried virtualdub's scan forward to next scene change feature but it isn't sensitive enough even if set at highest sensitivity. It can't detect farther away smaller object movement.

The scene i am capturing should have no movement if my place is secure enough ;) ...actually i hoping not see any supernatural stuff in my video .:scared:

So I like to ask if there is any viewer/player that can do a high speed scan of a avi file and stop when it sense any motion or movement in it. Or if there are any other technique for solving this problem please advice too.

Moved from Capture Video to AVI and DVD players. It may not be the best place, but it's more appropriate.

Maybe you can consider using the conditional filtering of avisynth.
you can make a script that load your avi and use conditional filtering to detect some mouvement, and once it's detect, you log the Frame Number to a text file.

then you have to find a way to play that file very fast ;)

Nota Bene: I don't know Conditional filtering of avisynth and i don't know if you can do I/O to file with avisynth, but IMHO with an I/O support it may work.

You could make a stats graph out of it (do a pass in XVID or something) and then look for peaks/spikes in quantization (not the right term)...

There are some webcam software that do just that...
Start recording where there is movement in the camera field of view.
You don't have to record about 12 hours of movie if It's not going to change. You can record only if it changes.

Perhaps you can try to use some of these (i don't remember the name, but a google search will propably show a few).

The Asus TV Tuner card that I got was bundled with software called Asus VideoSecurity. I didn't install it but maybe it'll do what you want. The tuner card was around $60 with free shipping from NewEgg.
