I've been searching the net as well as this forum to now end. If someone knows how to do divx menus it would be appreaciated.
I've ripped the entire first season of Stargate SG-1 to divx from my DVD's. I would like to create a menu with the name of each episode that I can select and then play whatever one I choose.
Is there a means to do this?
Thanks,
PS I was not sure where to post this question. I hope I choose the correct one

You could create a flash program with links to your Videos and a small screen shot of the episode. Then when you click on it, it would load you movie. That doesnt sound too hard.

A long time in the future, in a galaxy far, far, far away... Matroska will support this nifty feature.
And by long time, I mean long time. -_-;

There isn't anything like dvd menus yet, but what I normally do is use the Compact Disc Autolauncher 2.0. It's nice and customizable.

PS There is a whole section on the doom9 download page for mobie launchers.

Thanks, I just thought that with divx becoming more mainstream with hardware based solutions that the authorities to be would have come up with an equivalent to dvd menus for divx as part of the hardware implementation guidlines.

That's a good assumptions, but they only play AVI's, which are a container for DivX. And the AVI's don't have that kind of menu support, Matroska is also a container and will support those kinds of menus in the future. But I don't know when we will see Matroska players

Hum, before i changed my mind and started to use only MPEG2, all my DivX-Videos had Menus. I used MicroDVD to do that. Great little Program. ;)

throw together some html and make a framed 'site' and just embed the videos into the pages. would probably be the easiest to make, unless you wanted to make it look supercool... then you would need some photoshop skillz >=)

Hey there, I posted a topic about this before. I was trying to make a divx/flash menu. And It worked well, I used Director and some plugins, I actually made dvd looking menu (for Neon Genesis Evangelion) with sound subs ON/OFF and 'play movie' functions. It used mplayer2.exe (coz u can send commands to it, like fullscreen i.e.) and for the subs i used register stuff. Anyway, check it out in this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34129&highlight=divx+menu+flash) thread.

But why that complicaded? MicroDVD provides all you need to do nice Menus. It's a shame that this program isn't provided anymore.

I want a program that will automatically rip everything to divx with the quality settings I specify, including it will rip the dvd menus to look exactly the same. We could really use some automated process like that rather than having to design a flash page or whatnot for each dvd (I'm just making a suggestion, I don't know how to make anything like that). Someone please tell me if something like this already exists or is in development.
I think the idea of divx should be to create something that looks and acts exactly like the dvd but with a small filesize.

it is not the question of divx actually. this is a question to matroska developers. divx is just a compression format, but all the things like hotspot etc should be done by the container.
but i still can't even mux aac to *.mkv so it will take a long time to implement such a feature like dvd menus. the whole thing isn't so stable yet, so i use ogm for now. hope that after summer holidays matroska development will increase it's speed.

So here's what I think I wrote...
I feel compelled to post on this subject, because I have some information that might me enlightning.
Awhile back, I had a 'discussion' with Pamel at corecodec concerning the direction of the menuing system for Matroska. I gave my input because originally, I was going to write the app that would be Scenarist-for-Matroska, codenamed -Gemma.* So I gave my take on the whole thing.
In any event, dispite some of my better points, it was fairly well decided that the menuing system for Matroska would be a generic, cross-format menuing system would be developed separate from the main project proper. To make it clear; menus would NOT be part of the Matroska spec.
I thought that was pretty ridiculous, but I stopped commmenting on the thread, since nothing I said seemed to be making any difference.
Anyway, so far as I know, this is still the plan. Since there are other higher priorities right now than menus, these are being developed first. However, menuing will be greatly delayed even after this, because the Matroska team will need the input of many other container experts and project heads to devise a univeral Menu system.
If anyone is interested, the pertinent thread should still exist at corecodec.org, in one of the Matroska dev forums. Main exchange is between Pamel and I, with robux4 chiming in to support Pamel every once in awhile. ChristianHJW pretty well stayed out of this discussion.
Note that I not posting this to cause an uproar or anything. I'm just giving some insight into why the menuing is getting stuck on the back back back burner. I really like Matroska, and aside from this issue, like the direction it took from MCF.
Make of this what you will.
*(Unfortunately for me, I now work at Wal-Mart. When you work at Wal-Mart all day, you just don't feel like coding much of anything when you get home. Plus I have my own business to look after.)
