He removed all his posts from this forum (excluding posts from closed threads, which he couldn't remove), for some unknown reason (at least unknown to me). It appears to be possible to recreate his posts, but no decision has been made to do so. Stay tuned ...

Just in case you want to know...

I think I happened to be one of the last ones to see Bach in action, in this thread:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28939&perpage=20&pagenumber=12

We had an argument, well, sort of (you can't argue with Bach), which ended up in one of his childish outbursts and insults, and after that, for some reason he thought that we all were not worthy of his knowledge and decided to remove every piece of it, one by one.

I still think he is a brilliant and knowledgeable person, but with a loose screw in his motherboard.

In the time I'm visiting this site and put some of my problems here I noticed that you get sometime nothing. And sometimes many directions to the guids. Guids that I've allready mentioned in other threads do not work. I found my working guids on other sides.
I had three answers from two moderators that helped me and I'm greatfull for that. For the rest it's like an old empty western town. A lot of wind and passing bushes. Yes very quiet and very often a lot of written nothing.
Sometimes I have the idea that many on this side are so bloody important that they don't have to react on messages or answers from others and for shure they know everything better. I think I understand Bach. It is tuff talking to wind.
There is a lot of knowhow out there but many of you spilling to much time with pointing at the rules. On the same time you could help with the questions. But no you rather be moderators. And a screw loose in a motherboard is offensive to.

Please, read the following post very carefully: General conduct - or how to accept a gift properly (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52597). Especially the last two alineas.

I think I understand Bach. It is tuff talking to wind.
I assume that you read the relevant thread in "DVD2SVCD Advanced Topics", before Bach removed them?

There is a lot of knowhow out there but many of you spilling to much time with pointing at the rules.
Then I assume you know them very well, so why are you close of breaking rule 4?

Please keep it civilized, otherwise I will close this thread.

@Buddy,

I share with you some of your observations. There are lots of important (as you call them) and knowledgeable (I'd rather use this) people in here, but as Doom9's explanation says, you deserve no answer whatsoever. So if you get one, you are lucky enough.

Or using Harry Callahan's words: "You have to ask yourself a question, do I feel lucky?"

Knowledgeables come in two different flavours.

Ones just like to show off their know-how and give vague answers, so you just get a glimpse of their power. They look down to you and make you feel as "the crap you really are". These knowledgeables are of little use but for themselves.

The other group always gives you a precise answer, you get the feeling that it is a answer to your question, for you to understand, and it is useful. Sometimes takes time, they are busy guys. But asking the correct questions and doing your homework previously helps. You show that you are not just a take-and-take-only guy who does not give back.

I've been here only a couple of months. I knew nothing about DVD conversion. I have asked open questions to the general public and direct questions to some knowledgeable people (you get to know really fast who they are), and I've always got an answer. And a useful one. Even when my question was stupid (as I figured afterwards).

So, I guess that unlike you, I've been lucky.

Curious thing, just for the record, is that the only knowledgeble person that did not ever give me a direct useful answer was Bach. And I'm pretty sure he knew the answers.

PS: We all may have some loose screws in our system which show up from time to time, but when showing youself in public, better tight them up.

I have had a long and rather strange history with Bach/Mozart.
When I first came here he was a Mod and I thought a very good one, although many thought he was tough on people, but in most regards we thought alike.
In one instance I saw him not getting much help or support from the other Mods here and contacted Doom9 and Mozart/Bach directly stating my support for his position and I thought he was being unfairly treated. The situation quickly resolved itself and all was well in the world again.
A few months later I was made a Mod and Mozart and I worked together pretty well I thought. Most times we seemed to compliment each other quite well, although as we all know he can be a tad harsh at times, as I also could be.

Something then happened that I can't exactly remember or it was behind that scenes that he quickly left.

Then a few month later one of my biggest mistakes as a Mod happened when a newbie(or so I thought) by the name of Bach came around that I felt was being harsh and a little arogant. I got into it with him hard and some words and deeds were exchanged that I still regret to this day. Before I even knew who he was I contacted him and apologized for my unprofessional attitude and asked him if we could please get by this and continue on. He would have none of it and told me he would never post in a thread I had any part in.
Then through some deductive reasoning by the Mod team we made the connection and confronted him asking if he was Mozart reborn. He admitted it and at that point I contacted him again to see if we couldn't be friends again, but he still refused and to this day he still holds a grudge against me that I think any reasonable person would have seen that both parties were to blame for the blowup and at least I was man enough to admit it and let it be in the past.

I am not the only one here that has had numerous run-in's with him since then, just ask Chainsaw135.

In short I really think the guy is extremely bright, knows his stuff better then most here, but has a temper like none I have ever seen and holds a grudge against percieved wrongdoing and feels like he can never be wrong.

If he gives you answer you can be 99% sure it's right.

I truly miss Mozart, but Bach I can live without.

Mark

Yeah mozart/bach was ok he mostly helped his own ego more then anyone elses problems.Ahh well he is a smart guy none the less not like his mentor albert einstein, which if he had his personality i would have more nice things to talk about:D Since i moved to 'biw' forums i've not had to deal with bach and haven't missed him one little bit, tho he would of just gotten banned if he would of showed up anyways but i'm sure he knows that :QP

Hey markrb it is nice to see you around here..i left you a pm message so talk with you soon...

It makes me quite angry to see that someone is selfish and childish enough to edit/delete so many posts, thereby destroying really valuable information.

I would deeply appreciate a protection against such (e.g. a shadow/archive forum), in particular because this forum has really high "scientific" quality.

:( :( :(

Hope it wasn't me who drives him away. I was one of the last people who had a fight with Bach - he lost....

I respected him as a programmer, but not as an MPEG-Insider...

Yeah, I remember that resizing/spec flame war.

The sad part is that there's nothing wrong with being wrong, it's not a matter of winning or losing either (IMO). It's just a matter of respectfully drive an argument and lead to a conclusion where everybody learns something.

I learnt a lot from Bach, technically speaking.

You know i could not agree with you more, he uses up the bandwith to post the messages, which he dosen't pay for then after storing them he just deletes. I call that childish to the second power. But really an archive in this situtation would be nice or if it is possible needs to be taken seriously in to concideration either to restore if we can or implement this in the future. His findings did help alot of people and are a good read so who knows i guess we will wait and see:D....

Guys,

Have you noticed that this thread, after about a month of existence, has more that 850 views?

Bach truly left a trail behind him...

By just one post I could not tell, but I never believed his fingers wouldn't itch before a month :)

Neuron2 and Bach left about the same time. I don't know Neuron2 reasons, and both Doom9 and him are honouring the code of silence.

At least Neuron2 did not delete his posts.

That's true enough. I gave him more than one chance to start a "real" discussion, but he flamed me, an so, i became angry. The rest is history...

I'm not here for "winning", i'm here to share experiences. If i "lose" a discussion, i can learn..., guess some people are not thinking the same way.

I definetely agree with this :( Doom9's forum is a place where a quite big amount of knowledge is transiting through editable posts. I also believe that an archiving system should really be a good improvement to secure more the information on this great site.

well.. we do make regular backups, but backup up while the forum is shut down is much safer, and as the d-base dump is too large to store locally on the server and be downloaded later on, we have to do an online backup which takes a while.. which makes daily backups undesirable.. and you cannot simply put an old database back up as everything that happend since the dump and right now would be lost.. and restoring threads selectively is also a major pain in the ass.
