I know that you people are all pros here, and have awsome insight in these things. This Aspect Ratio thing is pretty confusing. When I rip and encode my Goldfinger DVD in DivX (I've done this in GKnot and EasyDivX), and then play with WMPlayer/DivX players on full screen, the video looks slightly compressed vertically, i.e., people look a little fatter (MY MONITOR DISPLAYS A CIRCLE AS A PERFECT CIRCLE). Remember TMPGEnc and mpeg-1 encoding: you can SEE and ALTER the proportions by clipping line-by-line the black bars (to vertically stretch) or adding lines to the black bars (to vertically compress) your video to the proportion YOU want. Is there a program that can do this for mpeg-4 (DivX) ? VISUALLY, I mean?
Can you point out (or write one yourselves) a guide in simple english without any presupposition about the reader? I've been thru Nicky Pages (literate, kind in the first half, smart and intriguing later, impatient and hurried in the end), 100 fps (very illuminating, but does not tell me how to proportion my DivX), VCDHelp (sometimes eagerly enthsiastic, says things like "click, click again, and then press OK" without bothering to explain the windows appearing or indeed not realizing that exact windows might not appear)or the ones in Doom9 (good ones; only I don't find exactly what I'm looking for). THANKS!
